Description

This is a listing for an antique Tibetan necklace.  I purchased it from the family of the original owner who said it had been in her family since the early 1900's.  The silver is entirely handwrought and displays the traditional and world renown Nepalese craftsmanship that these pieces are treasured for.   The coral beads are hand carved from natural, undyed high grade coral.  Tiny orange glass seed beads were used for spacers.  The stringing is original and remains strong and secure for wearing.  I've owned several antique pieces from Nepal and some are hallmarked for silver content and some are not.  I can't find a hallmark on this piece but it was tested as at least coin silver in content.  I haven't polished it and it has an aged warm patina.
It has a wearing length of 19 inches, not including the drop of the pendant, and weighs 108 grams.
The pendant is impressive.  It is 2 and 5/8th inches in length and is 2 inches wide at the bail.  The bail is accented with coral beads, mounted in a deep scalloped bezel.  The surface of the bail is covered in intricate silver work that extends into an overlay that reaches halfway down the front of a large turquoise stone.  This overlay reflects the Art Deco time frame in which it was made with geometric circular and linear patterns done in silver accented with coral enameling.  The enameling displays the desired and beautiful signs of age and no damage. The back of the pendant is solid with the symbol of the 4 pointed star.  Large soldered links form a hinge.
The two fancy silver beads next to the pendant measure 5/8th inches in width and 7/8th inches in length when you include the elaborate bead caps and beaded silver spacers.
The turquoise beads are oval shaped and measure the same width and length..5/8th by 7/8th...so are beautifully matched.
Four strands of orange natural undyed gem grade coral beads are cinched together with tiny sterling beads on each end. The coral beads graduate with the thicker beads (5mm wide) in the center and the smaller beads (2.5mm wide) on each end.
Two fancy silver and turquoise enameled disc shaped beads follow and they are matched with similarly sized turquoise stones.  Large barrel cut coral and hand wrought silver beads finish the necklace.  The largest barrel shaped coral bead is 12mm in length.  The clasp is a hand wrought hook and eye.
The necklace is noteworthy for the fine fine attention to detail and rare natural turquoise and coral stones.  It was obviously created by a master silver smith and gifted bead artist.  It will arrive by Priority mail insured.
