Brief History:"TWO  RUPEES" COINS:
India  introduced for the FIRST time   "TWO RUPEES
"  coins, replacing Rupees TWO currency notes in
1992 till  2003
.
The coins are
multi-sided
and composed of
Copper-Nickel
. There was no issue of 2004 coins for normal circulation. Besides normal coins, India issued many 'Commemmorative' coins to commemmorate various Indian Great Men: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chanra Bose, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Sri Aurobindo etc.

2005, 2006 & 2007
, India issued new design coins
"UNITY IN DIVERSITY",
made of stainless steel.

2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010
, India issued new design coins with
'Hasta Mudra: Hand gesture of Bharat Natyam Classical Dance(Victory sign)'
composed of stainless steel.

, India has again introduced new design 'Stainless Steel' coins with "

Rupee' currency symbol unlike '$'.
India minted its coins in Bombay, Calcutta, Hyderabad and Noida Mints in India. India also got coins minted from other countries like Ottawa(Canada), Brimingham(UK), Kremnica(Slovakia), London(UK), Mexico, Pretoria, Taegu(Korea) etc.
Each mint has distinct mark, which is embossed on each coin.
